Heating Element

Description

We are very proud of our fully UK manufactured Heating Element, fabricated to exactingly high standards, from high quality component parts (resistance coil wire, magnesium oxide, tubing & electrical connections) then assembled by highly skilled technicians & top CNC machinery.

Heating Element Available Bends

Elements can be bent or formed into the configurations shown above. Some forming is by a clever machine. Most is done by an even cleverer fellow, built like Popeye. Thus, the more complicated & involved the bends, the more you will have to pay for the spinach required to build the lad up. Straight elements are cheapest, and you could form them yourself. If you are feeling adventurous. Or if your shaping is just too weird and specific. But, in my humble opinion, it is best to let the experts do their work.

###Important Information###

The more “Wiggle Room” you have in terms of power rating & length, then the more likely we are to be able to find something on the shelf. In stock, makes the process both quicker & easier. If elements are required STRAIGHT or NARROW U BENT (ie, <=50mm fixing centres) then lengths will have to be close enuf. But if we can squeeze in a W shaped element (Fig 17 in drawwing above), then this allows the “middle leg” to vary according to what lengths are available on the shelf. Likewise, if you can be flexible on power rating, we may not have sufficient 1000w elements to hand, but if you could take 1250w, 1333w, or perhaps 750w, then we are better able to accommodate your needs quickly & cost efficiently.

If no such “Wiggle Room” exists, we can make elements to exacting specifications. These elements are filled, rolled, annealed & dried out overnight in an oven specifically to your needs. This is likely to add a further week to your leadtime. If you are needing large numbers of elements, ie, 30+, it won’t affect the price too much. For manufacturing runs of lower volumes, the price is going to rise markedly. The lower the number, then the higher the price.

It’s best you know all of this, and factor it in, ahead of our conversation. I want you to be a satisfied customer, like all the Good Folks in our Testimonials.

Heating Element Background Information.

Industrial Heating elements are a resistance coil wire (producing heat, like a filament in an old light bulb). This is encased in magnesium oxide (the white powder, compacted by rolling down from 10mm to 8mm, for protection of wire & insulation purposes, bizarrely). This is further encased in a usually stainless steel tube. For more detailed written explanation, click here. For a video explanation by some bloke with a really boring voice, click below.

Additional Heating Element Background Information.

Furthermore, the key component parts of an electrical heating element are –

Precision Wound Resistance Wire

Nickel Chromium coiled resistor. Wound precisely to provide exact heat requirement. Each individual spiral being thoroughly chemically washed to eliminate contamination and give a longer element life.

Welded Connection

The connection between terminal pin and resistor is securely made by electronic welding or crimping.

Electrical Insulation

The resistor coil is centrally located during manufacture and insulated with high purity Magnesium Oxide powder. When compacted by rolling, the magnesium oxide powder provides excellent thermal conductivity and dielectric strength.

Sheath Material

Incoloy800 by default, but other sheath material is available depending on individual customer’s requirements and applications. All heaters are fully annealed to allow forming.

Sealing

All heaters are sealed during manufacture to protect against moisture absorption during storage. This will not however serve to protect against liquid infiltration and chemical attack. Various sealants are available for special conditions. Please ask about special requirements.

Insulation and Threaded Terminals

4BA terminals by default 3.6mm ⌀, but can be spade, saddle or shell post terminals if required.. Ceramic or mica insulators ensure the electrical insulation of the terminal stud from the sheath. The standard threaded stud provides a quick and easy termination. Please ask about special requirements.

Deep Dive Information.

On our blog, ElementsOfHeating there is a wealth of relevant and useful information, such as an explanation of what a heating element actually is. Also we have a full description and explanation of the component parts of a screwed immersion heater and my best punt at explaining the joys of watt density, and it’s crucial importance when choosing the most appropriate immersion heater for water, oil, and breweries. Also available is an informational entry about the process we go through when designing immersion heaters generally.

YouTube Channel.

On our YouTube channel we have videos showing how to wire an immersion heater

..as well as this 2 minute explanation of what an immersion heater is.

Please note, your invoice will be from Immersion Heaters UK Ltd whether you buy from HeatingElements.co.uk or BreweryHeaters.co.uk, as these are merely websites allowing Jamie to play G##gle & Bong at their own game. They don’t pay their taxes, I have too. If you wish to purchase from IHUK Ltd, the relevant page is linked HERE.
